Mimecast makes significant inroads into SA`s user base

Johannesburg, 11 Oct 2006

Mimecast, the specialist e-mail management and security company headquartered in London, has expanded its operations into SA, where it has already gained a strong foothold within the market and established a base of some 22 000 users.

Mimecast`s expansion has been attributed to its high quality service levels and the escalating security and legislative burdens placed on local companies through both international and South African regulations.

"E-mail has become the preferred means of communication for many businesses," commented Garth Wittles, MD of Mimecast`s SA operation. "Thus, in order to ensure continuity for these communications, many of which may include images as well as conventional text, organisations have previously had to heavily invest in a variety of security and storage technologies. In addition, this has often been coupled with a team of highly-skilled staff required to manage these activities, an investment many companies, regardless of size, struggle to justify from a financial perspective."

"For an extremely affordable monthly outsource fee, companies are now able to remove the hassle of managing and protecting their own e-mail infrastructure," continued Wittles. "Mimecast has provided a unique quality of infrastructure by implementing distributed multiple secure data centres to provide a robust enterprise-grade service to their customer base; and to selected customers there is also a free bandwidth option available. This distributed application capability is a key differentiator for Mimecast as it can ensure an uninterrupted service capability for its clients. Many local companies have already weighed up the benefits of an outsourced service and embraced Mimecast`s offering, including public service giant TransNet and Touchline Media, a member of the Naspers stable."

"Mimecast is the best anti-spam, anti-virus and e-mail management system available, added Willem Swart, IT operations manager at Touchline Media. "The system will pay for itself within weeks and is one of the best pieces of software I have ever implemented within our company."

"According to Stephan Lamprecht, MD TT100, Mimecast`s Smart Perimeter Services offer the only ECT Act compliant approach to anti-spam by using a proprietary Reputation and Connection Filtering System," concluded Wittles.

Mimecast, who recently achieved an international five star rating from SC Magazine, can provide companies of all sizes with a stable and secure software as a service (SAAS) e-mail management solution. According to Gartner, 25% of new business software will be delivered as a SAAS solution by 2011.
