Mimecast ranked fifth fastest growing technology company on the Deloitte Technology Fast 500 EMEA 2010

Mimecast attributes its 7 579% revenue growth to the huge potential of delivering smarter, more secure e-mail services through the cloud.

Johannesburg, 30 Nov 2010

Mimecast, a leading supplier of cloud-based email security, continuity, policy control and archiving, today announced that it ranked number five on the Deloitte Technology Fast 500 EMEA 2010, a ranking of the 500 fastest growing technology companies in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). Rankings are based on percentage revenue growth over five years. Mimecast grew 7 579% during this period.

The growth of Mimecast's South African operation exactly mirrors the group's international growth, which managing director Garth Wittles believes is due to the combination of opportunity, investment and having the right people in place.

“Since launching in South Africa in 2004, we have seen local business' appetite for cloud computing solutions grow exponentially. With year-on-year growth in the triple digits, we don't see this slowing down, especially in the context of taking Mimecast into Africa. We already have channel partners and clients in Africa and believe that the adoption rate we have seen in South Africa will be experienced in the rest of the continent.”

In the past three years, Mimecast SA has invested tens of millions of rand in local infrastructure, with most of the spend going into the two local data centres. “Maintaining a high level of investment in infrastructure is critical to growth. The demand is there. We just need to be sure we can meet it,” says Wittles.

Mimecast's CEO Peter Bauer echoes Wittles' sentiments: “The potential for cloud computing to grow in EMEA is enormous, but there is work to do before companies like ourselves can fully realise its potential. Right now, there are cultural and legislative barriers that are making it difficult for cloud vendors to do business across the region. This comes down to a variety of factors, including data jurisdiction and perceived privacy issues within and across European and African borders. At Mimecast we have recently been supporting Microsoft in lobbying European governments to improve this situation, and when that happens we can hope to see similar advances made in Africa.”

“Making the Deloitte Technology Fast 500 EMEA ranking is a testament to a company's commitment to technology,” said David Halstead, Deloitte United Kingdom and partner in charge of the Deloitte Technology Fast 500 EMEA programme. “With its 7 579% growth rate over five years, Mimecast has proven that its leadership has the vision and determination to grow in difficult conditions.”

In addition to ranking in the Deloitte Technology Fast 500, Mimecast ranked Number Three in the 2010 Deloitte Technology Fast 50, a ranking of the 50 fastest growing technology companies in the UK.

Deloitte Technology Fast 500 EMEA selection, qualifications

The Technology Fast 500 list is compiled from the Deloitte EMEA Technology Fast 50 programmes, nominations submitted directly to the Technology Fast 500, and public company database research. Entrants must also be public or private companies headquartered in EMEA and must be defined as a company that develops or owns proprietary technology that contributes to a significant portion of the company's operating revenues; or manufactures a technology-related product; or devotes a high percentage of effort to the research and development of technology. Using other companies' technology in a unique way does not qualify.
