Mincom ups software revenue

Enterprise company Mincom`s 2006 financial results show Mincom Africa`s biggest growth came from licence revenue over the last year, making it the strongest arm of the Australian-based Mincom group, it says.

"Software licence revenue at Mincom Africa has grown by 137% in the last year," says Mike Evans, MD of Mincom Africa.

According to the company, it closed 25 transactions in 2006, with five new customers added in the fourth quarter of the financial year, including the Tanzanian Defence Force, Northam Platinum, Umcebo Mining and Newmont Ghana.

Evans notes the organisation`s fourth quarter growth in 2006 was the strongest Mincom Africa had seen in its 10-year history.

He attributes the growth to the fact that organisations on the continent are becoming more of how to implement enterprise resource planning (ERP) solutions to help their business.

He notes that generic solutions bought off the shelf are not compliant for all companies. Evans says Mincom works with individual investors for up to a year, assessing and understanding their specific ERP needs.

Evans adds that the acquisition of Comlabs, an Australian technical mining software firm, was a primary reason for licensing growth, as it created a technology-centred solutions provider for the mining industry in Africa.
