Mind-controlled wheelchair seems possible

Swiss and Spanish scientists are developing a mind-controlled wheelchair that could one day give severely paralysed patients new independence, reports Reuters.

The system will use electrodes embedded in a skullcap worn by the patient to transmit messages from the brain to a computer, which passes them on to the chair through a link.

Fans mourn Doom III delay

There was good news this week for Martian zombies and bad news for the people who love to kill them. Reuters reports that Doom III, one of the most heavily anticipated PC games ever and a virtual slaughter-fest for the interplanetary undead, will not be released this year.

Video game publisher Activision is responsible for Doom, which in its first incarnation revolutionised PC gaming with its intense graphics. The latest game in the franchise, "Doom III", has been the subject of heavy anticipation ever since creator id Software acknowledged the game was in development.

Samsung unveils 'fastest mobile processor`

Samsung Electronics has announced the S3C2440, which according to SACM is the world`s fastest mobile processor, with a core speed of 533MHz. The new processor will drive the emergence of new services, functions and multimedia content for mobile handheld devices, such as personal assistants and smart phones.

The S3C2440 has features such as camera interface, Thin Film Transistor and STN LCD display support, secure digital/multimedia card/secure digital input output storage and interface capabilities, USB host and device, and touch-screen interfaces.
