Mineral and metallurgical research specialists, Mintek, is reaping the benefits of more effective transactions processing and visibility of information since implementing world-leading enterprise business solution, SAP R/3. Mintek undertook the ERP project to integrate systems, improve business controls and provide valuable management information throughout its organisation.
The company also needed to replace its ageing legacy systems, centralise information and become Year 2000 compliant.
"The project, completed within eight months, was a huge success," says Reinder Groenewold, SAP Project Manager at Mintek. "Within the first month we were already realising the benefits of more effective processing of transactions and visibility of information. Mintek has also obtained many other unexpected benefits, including more efficient business processes, improved productivity, reduced costs, less errors, accelerated transaction times and improved accuracy of information in real time."
After considerable investigation by Mintek, SAP Southern Africa was selected to provide the solution because of its suitability and R/3's tight integration. Says Reinder: "The ability to support and integrate different systems was another major consideration."
SAP Southern Africa business partner, CDE, was chosen to implement the financial (FI), controlling (CO), project system (PS), sales and distribution (SD), Service Management (SM), plant maintenance (PM) and materials management (MM) modules. Following CDE's implementation technique, based on SAP's rapid implementation and fast-track methodology AcceleratedSAP (ASAP), Mintek went live in June this year, eight months from commencement of the project.
