Minolta South Africa has introduced PageScope, its new network printer management utility which provides remote access to printers, including printer status monitoring and network/printer parameter settings.
According to Minolta-QMS laser printer product manager, Marc Pillay, network managers typically spend too much time handling printer-related questions and problems. "Our software enables network administrators to electronically monitor the condition of remote MINOLTA-QMS printers from any point on the network.
"Real-time information about toner and consumable status, required maintenance and errors is available in an instant," says Pillay.
Advantages of PageScope include: remote printer configuration and monitoring to reduce time-consuming maintenance activities; multi-protocol print serving to streamline the process of managing multiple operational systems and host environments; robust capabilities and user-friendly interface to enhance TCP/IP management utilities` functionality; and management for third-party network devices to increase administrator productivity.
Pillay says that although the benefits of PageScope are particular to Minolta-QMS laser printers, printers from other vendors can also be monitored, configured and managed from the same software. "Multiple printers can be controlled simultaneously just as easily as a single unit on the network," he says.
The PageScope server components are completely Java-based and the cross-platform nature of Java enables users to use PageScope on many platforms that support Java.
PageScope is supported by Microsoft Windows (3.x, 95/98, NT, 2000), Macintosh, Unix and OS/2.
