Minolta-QMS has set its sights on becoming the number one colour laser printer brand and one of the leading monochrome laser printer brands sold in southern Africa - not an unrealistic target considering there was a 40% increase worldwide in Minolta-QMS laser printer sales into Africa last year and an anticipated 35% increase in sales this year.
Minolta-QMS area manager, Leonardo Brentar, says Africa represents the largest growth area for Minolta-QMS worldwide. "Africa is a growing market, unlike Europe, where a saturated market has resulted in less pronounced growth.
"Minolta South Africa is in the process of implementing a focused business strategy to harness sales in southern Africa via its channel partner, Mustek, which has an established network of authorised business partners throughout the region," says Brentar.
Minolta South Africa`s commitment to this process has included appointment of a dedicated business manager, Byron Bassa, to oversee the project. Bassa will manage a catchment area comprising 14 neighbouring countries including Seychelles, Mauritius and the Comores.
Bassa says Africa has historically been a dumping ground for outdated products. "Several vendors have taken a 'hit and run` approach to business into Africa, concluding opportunistic deals without offering technical support or long-term business strategy.
"We intend to do business differently in these countries by developing long-term relationships with our partners and offering technical support and training, best product pricing, best printer technology, marketing support, free shipment and credit facilities," says Bassa.
In return, Minolta will require business and marketing plans from each partner, evidence of active marketing, sales and support of Minolta-QMS products, meeting of annual targets, stockholding, sales reports and commitment to a long-term partnership.
"Minolta is the first vendor of office automation equipment to offer this type of commitment to its partners, an initiative that has been welcomed by all our partners and potential partners," says Bassa.
