Fujitsu Siemens Computers, the leading European IT provider and a leader in mission-critical computing, today announced that the high-end model of its PRIMEQUEST server line, PRIMEQUEST 480, has achieved a new world record for servers up to 32 cores in the Standard Performance Evaluation Corporation (SPEC)(*1) Java Business Benchmark 2005 (SPECjbb2005), with performance of 322 719 business operations per second(*2).
The benchmark test was done under the leadership of Fujitsu, which achieved the record with a 32-way PRIMEQUEST 480 using 1.6GHz Intel Itanium 2 processors. The results were made public on 22 December 2005 by SPEC.
Superior performance in supporting the open standards of Java computing is a crucial platform selection criteria to implement service-oriented modern software architectures for business applications. The IT manager using a server platform with proven excellence in the SPECJBB 2005 benchmark can benefit from most efficient runtime performance of his business logic.
SPECjbb2005 is a benchmark test developed by SPEC to evaluate the performance of servers running Java-based applications. It simulates the processing of actual wholesale industry business tasks, such as ordering, shipping, receipts and payment processing, inventory management and customer data management. Thus, the results can be used as an index of processing performance that reflects real-world business operations.
Fujitsu Siemens Computers` PRIMEQUEST is the world`s most powerful open systems server, combining the economy of open-standard systems with the reliability of a mainframe. It uses high-performance 64-bit Intel Itanium 2 processors, with a Fujitsu-developed chipset that maximises the reliability and scalability of the processor. PRIMEQUEST`s high performance is also made possible by ultra-high-speed synchronous transmission between chips (0.8-1.3 gigabits per second).
PRIMEQUEST servers are ideal for mission-critical applications which demand high availability, robust performance, enhanced flexibility and optimum resource usage. Typical application areas for PRIMEQUEST servers include large-scale database systems, online transaction processing environments and large-scale business logic processing in application middle tiers. The PRIMEQUEST server architecture provides a high degree of platform fault immunity with up to eight highly available, independent and hardware isolated partitions - each one being a fully independent `server` within the system.
The PRIMEQUEST server line is offered as part of the Fujitsu Siemens TRIOLE strategy for optimised IT, which unites servers, storage, networks and middleware to provide a dynamic and flexible customer IT environment. The TRIOLE strategy provides the optimised design, development and deployment of highly reliable, business-critical data centres in heterogeneous environments aimed to increase business continuity, agility and efficiency.
For more information, please visit Here The TRIOLE strategy links to Fujitsu Siemens Computers concept of the Dynamic Data Center (DDC) leading to new-generation hardware and software architecture that focuses on end-user services and service level agreements (SLAs) which enables on-demand computing to become a reality. With the DDC Fujitsu Siemens Computers enables companies to move from system-related tier-IT structures into service-oriented architectures. This means, for example, that computers and database resources can be dynamically aligned to applications and the result is increased flexibility and reliability, as well as considerable improvement in the cost-effectiveness of the IT infrastructure.
