Core applications previously ran on competing servers, including IBM AS/400 Blue Bell, PA, May 22, 2000 -- Unisys Corporation today announced that it has received an order valued at $1 million from Mitsui & Co. (USA) Inc. in New York City for a Unisys e-@ction Enterprise Server ES7000 and other Unisys servers as part of Mitsui`s worldwide deployment of SAP R/3 solutions.
Mitsui, www.mitsui.com, a worldwide provider of integrated trade facilitating services, has selected Unisys as its supplier of choice for servers and related information services for its worldwide, multi-unit deployment of SAP applications. The SAP applications address business requirements earlier handled by solutions running on other platforms, including IBM AS/400 servers.
The deployment of Unisys servers is a key part of the corporate-wide "Mitsui in Motion Integration Initiative," whereby Mitsui is applying Internet technology to transform itself into an e-business enterprise, speeding global trade, strengthening supplier/customer relationships and improving global logistics.
Unisys servers have already been installed to support Mitsui`s Singapore-based operation; future expansion is expected at Mitsui offices worldwide, such as London and Sydney, Australia.
"The Mitsui in Motion Integration Initiative is already moving our business at Internet speed, enabling us to complete critical business transactions in an instant, anywhere on the globe," said Mr. Toshihiko Sasahira, executive vice president and chief information officer, Mitsui & Co. USA. "The Unisys ES7000 has the performance and scalability needed to support the very large numbers of transactions our business generates, and the uninterrupted system availability required to maintain non-stop service to our clients." ES7000 servers, using the advanced enterprise capabilities of the Microsoft Windows 2000 Server operating system, remove the last barriers to using Microsoft and Intel technology as the foundation for global, high-volume electronic business computing. ES7000 features for partitioning and load balancing provide a flexible, highly available environment for running SAP R/3 applications.
"The ES7000 was designed just for the kind of business challenge Mitsui USA faces today," said George Gazerwitz, president, Unisys Systems and Technology. "Its global deployment of mission-critical SAP solutions in a global e-business environment will provide an excellent example of how companies can use the ES7000 to quickly transform themselves to serve their markets instantly, anywhere on the globe."
