Vodacom is known as South Africa`s leading cellular network, however, this year the company will also be the platinum sponsor of the highly timely 2006 African Utility Week, taking place from 8 to 10 May at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC).
Michael Allschwang, Vodacom`s Managing Executive: Corporate Solutions, explains the reason for Vodacom`s involvement: "Vodacom is committed to not only creating better communication, but also to raise the standard of living for all South Africans. In light of recent power failures in Cape Town, the conference is a crucial vehicle for concerned industry players to walk away with practical solutions."
He continues to say that one such practical solution is the use of mobile telemetry applications like the remote reading of data for utility metering devices such as electricity and water, which results in greater productivity, improved service and lower costs.
"Mobile and wireless telemetry are extending the application of utility services beyond traditional channels and will continue to offer high growth opportunities in coming years," he adds.
Vodacom will deliver a presentation at the African Utility Week on 9 May from 12.30 on mobile and wireless telemetry today and into the future.
This is only one of the topics which will be discussed at African Utility Week, which will bring together more than 1 000 key decision-makers from Africa within the power, water and gas utilities sector to discuss new technologies and new trends, as well as strategies for capitalising on these developments. At the same time delegates will highlight, evaluate and decide upon solutions for the projected power shortage crisis in southern Africa.
