Mobile triggers storage increase

Johannesburg, 24 Nov 2010

storage has exceeded commercial data storage for the first time and it's no surprise, says Xiotech country manager, Derek Rule.

This, he says, is because mobile devices are used much more than initially intended for and have become an everyday living necessity for many people.

“I believe that personal data will continue to accelerate as the capabilities of mobile phone devices progress and iPods become even more common', asserts Rule.

As data growth intensifies, the need for faster, reliable and easy-to-use storage solutions increases. “CEOs need to understand and accept the role that technological innovation plays,” he says.

“There is a definite need for CEOs to move away from legacy choices. Deciding on a fresh approach can reform organisations and make a viable difference to operations.”

Rule adds that technology should enable a simpler way of doing business and believes that for companies to successfully manage the acceleration of data growth, IT professionals need to become data managers.

“Businesses around the world are beginning to understand the value of cloud computing and virtualisation with different adoption rates and the only way they will be able to stay at the forefront of IT solutions is to accept the valuable skills of IT professionals”, Rule states.
