Mobile, virtualisation seen as security challenge

Computerworld reports.

According to the Ponemon Institute's "State of the Endpoint" study, there are signs that IT operations and IT security often fail to work as a team. Forty-percent say collaboration is "poor or non-existent", and 48% call it "adequate, but can be improved". Virtualisation, mainly VMware and Microsoft Hyper-V, are the software platforms their organisations support, and 55% say virtualisation does require "additional security measures”.

According to CloudPro, businesses are increasingly seeing the uptake of mobile devices as endpoints and the browser is becoming the main application interface for public and private clouds.

Malware continues to be a threat and operational cost driver for IT, but 31% of respondents noted a major up-tick in the frequency of malware incidents over the last year.

The survey also found that 41% of the respondents claimed the responsibility for virtualisation security was not assigned to a specific department, IT Pro Portal notes.

The survey also revealed that many believe the increase in the use of mobile devices in the workplace was a great threat to security.
