Mobile VOIP demand rises

Demand for mobile voice over Internet protocol (VOIP) capabilities will lead to a $29.57 billion business by 2015, reports eWeek.

According to research company Frost & Sullivan, the demand for VOIP on mobile devices is set to increase over the next few years and Apple's iPhone and App Store is fuelling this trend.

About $605.8 million in mobile VOIP revenues were generated in 2008 in North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific and Latin America.

Pirated VOIP software circulating

Jerasoft Development, a VOIP billing software developer, warns that fraudulent third-party companies have been spreading pirate beta-version of Billbery 3.0.5, states i-Newswire.

The pre-release software was issued by Jerasoft Development for testing but wasn't intended for sales or distribution.

The company warns that fraudsters usually contact potential customers from free e-mail services such as Gmail and Hotmail and once they receive payments for the pirated software they disappear.

Bangladesh to issue VOIP licences

The Bangladesh government is set to roll out 3 000 licences for handling international calls through VOIP, says BDNews24.

Telecommunications secretary Sunil Kanti Bose says the government will allow 3 000 operators to run international telephone call termination operations through VOIP that will take place in three to four months' time.

Mir Telecom, Novotel and BanglaTrac Communications were the first telcos in the country to have received the VOIP licences and previously held exclusivity to make international calls over the Internet.
