Mobility at its best

Johannesburg, 24 Jul 2001

In a move which further supports Fujitsu Siemens Computers` strategic focus on mobility, the company has launched the first notebook in its professional LIFEBOOK Series to feature the integrated Bluetooth technology.

This technology supports not only wireless operation in networks, data synchronisation and transmission but also wireless, digital voice transmission, anywhere and at any time. In areas where Bluetooth technology is forbidden (in hospitals or aircrafts), it can simply be switched off.

LIFEBOOK B-2547`s high mobility, wireless connections and long battery life, backed by outstanding security functions, make this notebook an ideal client for business-critical computing applications. As the first mini-notebook with integrated SmartCard reader, the LIFEBOOK B Series delivers optimal access control to company data, security log in/off and a password manager function which stores and manages all user passwords and log-in-sequences. Additional standard features include a Security Panel for boot protection and dual password protection.

The notebook`s low weight (approximately 1.3kg) and sleek and slim design attract customers who are often "on the road" and who attach great importance to high performance and portability. This clientele includes managers, sales executives and professionals and, of course, all who appreciate top technology.

Dino Kondos, product manager mobile computing, says: "Our new LIFEBOOK is a milestone in our strategic direction in terms of mobility and business-critical computing. Its sophisticated technology offers tomorrow`s standards today."

Features:

Powerful Pentium III 600MHz ultra low voltage processor with SpeedStep technology, which extends battery life.

The B-2547 features a Security Panel and dual password protection in the BIOS and an integrated SmartCard reader uniting several security features.

Integrated TouchScreen and four programmable Quick Launch buttons to quickly invoke applications such as Internet browsers and e-mail.

Integrated 10/100 Ethernet to provide quick and easy support for LAN or DSL connections. The internationally proven (CTR21) 56k modem also permits access to networks or ISPs in any environment.

Robust magnesium casing in sleek and slim design.

Weighing in at around 1.3kg and with a slim 10.4-inch waistline, the LIFEBOOK

gives a battery life of more than two hours with a three-cell battery in benchmark tests.

The LIFEBOOK B-2547 will be available from August 2001.
