Modularity, security and customisation key in Brilliant Accounting Version 9

Johannesburg, 14 Sep 1998

Brilliant Business Systems` latest version of its Brilliant Accounting software, Version 9, brings financial and management reporting to the fingertips of any small or medium sized business, as well as providing them with strong stock, debtor and creditor control.

Pete Whalley, general manager at Brilliant Business Systems, says that because Version 9 is modular, different industries can take advantage of all its benefits by installing the relevant modules in addition to the standard package. It also means that customers who purchase Brilliant at the outset of their business will be able to "grow" with the software. In many cases, we have large companies that use our software, in addition to the many thousands of small to medium businesses, he adds.

Brilliant Accounting was the first 32-bit accounting package in South Africa and had the first integrated payroll in its general ledger.

Version 9 caters for electronic fund transfers (EFTs), enabling businesses to pay their suppliers and staff electronically using the payroll facility. "The benefits of this are obvious," says Whalley, "and include cost effectiveness, speedy payment to suppliers and savings in time."

The latest version also allows information to be imported directly into Microsoft Excel eliminating complicated import procedures. Spreadsheets and customised reports become as easy as 1-2-3.

Formatting reports is customisable in such a way that users do not have to use the stationery supplied with the programme but are able to use their own letter heads, customised stationery, or import their company`s logo into the systems.

The package, which caters for manufacturing, retail and service orientated companies, has an SQL function, which allows a company to

extract very particular information, without printing reams of paper.

In addition, auditors can be catered for easily when they want to audit the books because the software has Caseware export functionality which is used by auditing firms.

Whalley explains that the various security features embedded in Version 9 mean that a business`s financial information is truly safeguarded. This is especially important for those businesses using the EFTS feature for electronic banking.

The package is also capable of handling more than one company`s books, so if there is a second or even third, this one package will manage all the companies` accounting and financial information easily.

"There are no limits to this feature," says Whalley. "Similarly, you can have as many debtors, creditors, stock items, jobs or bills of materials as you need. The projects in the system will show you a report, where you can see a profit or a loss per "project", as we have termed it, but it may be used in any area of your business where you want to see profit or loss data.

Stock can be reserved for certain clients if need be, a feature which will ensure companies always have sufficient stock on hand. With features like re-order stock levels, minimum and maximum stock levels and a stock take procedure, stock control will be very accurate.

"Simply put, Version 9 means that time wastage is minimised due to all accounting accomplished by the programme while financial document flow control and costing capabilities are maximised," he says.

Brilliant Accounting comes with software and service agreement which ensures users access to telephonic support, operating system support and upgrades on the software. With our software and service agreement, customers are aware of the fact that there are no hidden costs.

Whalley says:Our motto is "let us take care of your accounting software-you take care of your business."
