More opposition to Google-Yahoo deal
An international network of advertisers publicly criticised the proposed search-advertising partnership between Yahoo and Google on Monday, saying the deal may "have a detrimental effect on competition", according to MartketWatch.
The World Federation of Advertisers, which claims to represent 55 national advertiser associations worldwide, said it asked the European Commission to block the partnership, which is expected to get under way next month.
Although the advertising partnership will only affect Web sites in North America, it is under review by anti-trust regulators in Europe and Canada, in addition to the Justice Department and several state attorneys general.
Google lets users embed books
Google has released a set of tools that allows bloggers and Web designers to embed entire books in their blog posts, reports Los Angeles Times.
Though Google's Book Search has let Web cruisers flip through digitised volumes for a few years now, this embeddable technology might do for public domain books what YouTube's embeddable player did for online video.
How about the utopian world where every other Web site you go to, someone has embedded an interesting book and turned it to just the right page so you can begin flipping through it?
Fault shuts down LHC until next year
A new fault on the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) could see the device shut down until next year, says VNUNet.com.
Cern reports that a faulty electrical connection between two magnets caused a large helium leak on Friday and the section of the collider will have to be repaired.
It will take a month to heat up the section of the collider so that it can be safely repaired, and then another month to cool the section back down so that it can be used in experiments.
