Motorola, Bollor'e T'el'ecom team up for WiMax in France

Bollor'e T'el'ecom selects Motorola to support its plans to deliver broadband services using WiMax in France.
Paris, France, 19 Oct 2007

Motorola (NYSE: MOT) today announced the deployment of a WiMax pilot in Paris with Bollor'e T'el'ecom (www.bolloretelecom.eu), one of the leading communications providers and a holder of 12 WiMax licences in France.

The pilot is designed to assist Bollor'e T'el'ecom in designing and assessing its WiMax network as it looks to deliver new and innovative nomadic broadband services in France.

Complying with the IEEE standard 802.16e-2005 and operating in the 3.5GHz band, the nomadic WiMax network is already live. Installed and operated by Motorola on two of Bollor'e`s sites in Paris, the network will enable Bollor'e T'el'ecom to measure the radio performance of WiMax, test innovative broadband services and better prepare for its commercial deployment.

For the trial, Motorola is providing deployment, integration and support services to Bollor'e T'el'ecom, in addition to WiMax equipment such as WiMax access points, customer premises equipment and PC cards.

Joe Cozzolino, corporate vice-president and general manager of Motorola Home & Networks Mobility EMEA, comments: "WiMax is an ideal technology for enabling new entrants into the market. By trialling our WiMax solution, Bollor'e T'el'ecom will see how it can benefit from high-quality, high-speed wireless broadband at a low cost of deployment and ownership.

"We are pleased to work in close co-operation with the Bollor'e T'el'ecom teams to ensure the successful introduction of their WiMax system and the adoption of the technology throughout France."

Jean-Baptiste Chavanne, chief operating officer of Bollor'e T'el'ecom, comments: "Our WiMax trial with Motorola will enable us to not only gain a better understanding of broadband provision as we look to launch our commercial services in a new integrated multimedia model, but it also demonstrates our commitment to the adoption of WiMax technology. We are confident that our close collaboration with Motorola will enable us to accelerate the roll-out of WiMax in France."

Motorola`s WiMax solutions are designed to support fixed, portable, nomadic and mobile applications. The WiMax access points, customer premises equipment and mobile WiMax chipsets under development for use in Motorola`s devices are part of the MOTOwi4 portfolio of solutions that complement and complete wireless broadband networks.

Delivering IP coverage to virtually all spaces, MOTOwi4 also includes fixed, mesh, and indoor solutions for private and public networks. All of the MOTOwi4 solutions complement each other and can be deployed to meet the specific requirements for public and private networks.
