Motorola to showcase future of mobile communications at GSM 3G Africa Conference

Cape Town, 19 Oct 2006

Motorola will share its vision for the future of mobile communications in the African region at the GSM 3G Africa congress and exhibition, taking place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre on 19 and 20 October 2006. The company will showcase its key infrastructure solutions as well as its comprehensive new mobile devices portfolio.

Visitors to the Motorola stand will be among the very first in the region to preview the latest Motorola handsets including the MOTOKRZR and MOTORIZR, as well as the groundbreaking MOTOFONE. Motorola will also be showcasing the power-packed HSDPA-enabled MOTORAZR V3xx and MOTORAZR maxx v6, as well as W220, the attractive and affordable new MOTORAZR-like clam.

Motorola has set new standards in thin and rich with the stunning new MOTOKRZR - a winning combination that gives you an elite, unparalleled mobile experience. The MOTOKRZR showcases Motorola`s commitment to design, introducing a new form factor and adding additional features. Fusing superior form with rich functionality, the MOTOKRZR also features a host of premium multimedia features.

Motorola is empowering new users to embrace mobile communication with confidence and style while disrupting the way they have previously communicated with the revolutionary new MOTOFONE. MOTOFONE offers an intuitive new interface built on icons and voice versus text. By using images, the device makes it simpler and friendlier for first-time users to navigate, place a call, and retrieve messages. Its large, high contrast screen, powered by Motorola`s revolutionary ClearVision display, helps eliminate glare from direct sunlight - making it easier to use the phone outdoors and on-the-go.

"The Motorola handsets and accessories on display clearly illustrate Motorola`s commitment to style and design," says Andre Kangas, General Manager, Mobile Devices, Motorola High Growth Markets. "From top-to-bottom, this latest range from Motorola meets the diverse needs of every mobile consumer while allowing them to express their own individual sense of personal style."

Motorola will also showcase its latest Networks & Enterprise solutions for broadband communications, including MOTOwi4 wireless broadband solutions such as WiMax, Motorola Reach GSM, 3G and HSDPA technologies and its comprehensive portfolio of services.

"Customer choice is key to Motorola`s offerings for both telecoms operators and consumers, and this GSM 3G event enables us to highlight the benefits of technology as it evolves, as well as demonstrate some of the complementary network technologies now available across the region," says Stefano Mattiello, regional sales director, Sub-Saharan Africa, Motorola Networks & Enterprise.

GSM is predicted to be a key technology for "connecting the next billion". As a cost-effective, upgradeable, rapid and cost-effective GSM solution that offers new features and platforms, Motorola Reach supports operators to build profitable new networks and to expand existing mobile networks. This underlines the company`s commitment to address the diverse needs and desires of network operators, service providers, and enterprises in emerging markets and around the world.

Moreover, Motorola`s Reach GSM Solution is delivering low cost of entry network solutions with flexible voice coverage and capacity, data services that can be switched on and scaled upwards as needed and sustained lower OpEx across the network. .

SharedPhone is another of Motorola`s initiatives that aim to realise Motorola`s vision of connecting the next billion subscribers. This simple solution is fully mobile and easy to use, making voice and data calls possible and also removing a key barrier to entry for potential mobile call users.

GSM 3G Africa takes place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre on 19 and 20 October 2006. Motorola will exhibit at stand number J7.
