Moving to Main Street: Dell equips mainstream desktop with latest processor

Dell SA has announced that the Intel Pentium 4 processor will power its new mainstream desktop, the OptiPlex GX240, for corporate customers and small businesses.

Dell`s newest system will be priced comparably to its Intel Pentium III predecessors. The desktop features Intel`s new 845 chipset, which unites the performance of Pentium 4 with low-cost SDRAM system memory. For the end-user, this provides smoother multi-tasking, improved multimedia performance and headroom for future software needs. The OptiPlex GX240 will enable businesses to take advantage of the Intel Pentium 4`s advanced visual computing capabilities, making collaboration, visual analysis and interactive e-learning applications faster and more practical than ever before.

"Intel Pentium 4 entering mainstream desktops is an important milestone," says Leigh Hancock, product marketing manager for Dell SA. "Intel Pentium 4 has been available for some time, but only on high-end systems. We have been anxious to help our corporate and individual customers migrate to this important technology, and our business model lets us to do that quickly, easily, and affordably."

Available in a range of chassis options, Dell SA is currently running an introductory special offer on the OptiPlex GX240. This introductory small desktop configuration features the Intel Pentium 4 processor at 1.5GHz, 128MB SDRAM, 20GB hard drive, integrated 10/100 networking, 16MB ATI Rage graphics card, 15-inch monitor - 13.8-inch VIS integrated audio, floppy diskette drive, Microsoft Windows 98SE, and a three-year, next-business-day on-site warranty for R6 990, excluding VAT and delivery.
