MRAM innovator manages explosive growth, realises rapid ROI with QAD

Johannesburg, 19 Feb 2002

One of the first companies to deliver a key process solution for manufacturing coveted MRAM chips has achieved excellent results over a short period of time with QAD MFG/PRO enterprise applications. After a quick four-month implementation of the QAD solutions, Ireland-based Magnetic Solutions is on track to realise a 100% return on investment in less than 18 months.

"It`s exciting to be a market leader in one of today`s hottest technology sectors. MRAM chips are heralded as a key technology for the global semiconductor industry because of their outstanding speed, capacity and non-volatility - the combined benefits of chips such as DRAM and Flash," said Pat Hughes, senior project engineer of Magnetic Solutions.

"To keep up with product demand and the growth of our own company, however, we needed to improve our systems without delaying orders. QAD had the proven manufacturing software expertise needed to answer our needs faster than anyone else. Their applications are capable of taking us into the realm of Internet-enabled order management as soon as we are ready, a key factor in our decision."

Magnetic Solutions chose to implement MFG/PRO eB, the latest version of QAD`s flagship ERP software, in mid-May 2001 and completed the implementation in September 2001.

QAD MFG/PRO eB offers a Web-enabled ERP foundation for manufacturers that helps increase inventory turns, productivity and profitability and offers a total cost of ownership that is one of the lowest in the industry. Two important modules of the solution, Service/Support Management (SSM) and Project Realisation Management (PRM), will help the company achieve dramatic results over future months.

"Through better cash management alone, we are well on our way to achieving a 33% ROI with QAD in less than six months," said Niall O`Kelly, CFO of Magnetic Solutions. "Innovative QAD modules like SSM and PRM will allow us to track costs and revenues associated with individual tools of each project with great accuracy and minimum overhead. If we were to factor in the cost savings associated with redeploying our current workforce from the manual processes of the past to more productive areas such as customer support, the payback would be even faster."

QAD`s SSM is a fully integrated service module for repair depots, field service organisation, and companies servicing the equipment they sell that ensures high levels of customer satisfaction by dramatically improving the speed of service and support activities. It tracks initial contact with prospects through service activities and collections. SSM fully automates installed base updates from calls, sales orders and return material authorisations, and the generation of installation and preventive maintenance calls.

QAD`s PRM supports budgeting, logistics, costing, invoicing, and revenue recognition associated with an "installation" project, helping manufacturers keep track of labour and subcontracted services performed at the customer`s site.
