MS Docs joins Google cloud

Google will be incorporating the DocVerse functionality into Google Cloud Connect, and has put out a call for beta testers, reports Fierce Content Management.

Earlier this year, Google acquired DocVerse, which provides a way to view Microsoft Office documents in the cloud. This functionality is finally being incorporated into Google Docs and renamed Google Cloud Connect for Microsoft Office.

According to Google, users of Microsoft Office 2003, 2007 and 2010 can sync their Office documents to the Google cloud, and documents are backed-up, given a unique URL, and can be accessed from anywhere - including mobile devices - at any time through Google Docs.

Apple relaxes Flash restrictions

Adobe's financial success from strong sales of its flagship Creative Suite 5 package comes against a backdrop of conflict between itself and Apple, states The Wall Street Journal Online.

Apple chief Steve Jobs has criticised Adobe's Flash technology, which is used to format most online videos. However, it has relaxed restrictions on application developers for its mobile platform, allowing programs written in Flash.

Adobe president and chief executive Shantanu Narayen says he is confident about the company's push into mobile because of the rising popularity of devices running Google's Android operating system. Adobe has also allied with such as Research In Motion, Nokia and Hewlett-Packard to promote Flash Player 10.1.

Australian Web CMS firm expands

Australian Web content management solutions (CMS) vendor Elcom has expanded into the US, says CMS Wire.

At the 2010 Gartner IT Symposium, Elcom revealed it is opening an office in New York, where the company will manage its partners and clients in North America.

Elcom CEO John Anstey cited North America's domination of the global Web content management market, and said Elcom's expansion into the US represents a substantial growth opportunity for the company.
