MS justifies Silverlight player
Microsoft has tried to justify its Silverlight media player in the age of HTML5, says the Register.
Brad Becker, Microsoft director of product management, says that Silverlight is not designed to replace HTML5. The closed-source player, he contends, lets you build “premium” experiences.
Also, Becker says, Silverlight delivers "consistency" and "timing" for those looking to offer online video, games, and consumer, business, and enterprise applications.
Onapsis to release security tool
An information security company will soon release a tool that will allow companies to test their enterprise resource planning ERP software for security threats, writes PC World.
The first version of X1 works with SAP business platforms, says Mariano Nu~nez Di Croce, director of research and development for Onapsis.
The company eventually plans to add modules for Siebel, Oracle and PeopleSoft ERP applications, he says.
Farmers deploy SAP apps
Farmers Trading Group in New Zealand has switched its implementation of SAP applications to IBM DB2 from its current database, reports Geekzone.
By choosing DB2 for their SAP environment, the group benefits from deep compression technology, which has reduced its storage needs by over 40%.
The company expects to realise significant savings over the next five years because of the value realised with IBM's DB2.
