MS to update Office for Mac
Microsoft says the next version of Office for Mac will get two key features that were part of the latest Windows version: photo editing and mini charts in Excel, known as Sparklines, writes CNet.
In a video posted on its Office for Mac Web site, the company showed how the two features will work.
Sparklines are tiny charts that fit in a single cell and allow one to see the trend in individual data points.
SAP advances mobile apps
SAP is planning to release a mobile development platform based on the spoils of its $5.8 billion acquisition of Sybase, though some industry analysts found the plans light on specifics, reports Sybase.
SAP co-CEO Bill McDermott says the new platform reflects the growing importance of mobile devices around the world, and the reality of how people now work and do business.
The move allows SAP to drastically increase the number of users its business applications reach as well as open up new markets such as China where Sybase has a strong foothold.
Symantec virtualises business apps
Symantec has unveiled two new offerings that is said to provide customers the ability to virtualise their business applications and minimise storage costs on the VMware platform, states CBR.
The company says its ApplicationHA, based on Veritas Cluster Server technology, will provide high availability for business applications through application level visibility and control in VMware environments.
The offering also monitors applications' health status, detects failures in the virtual machine and restarts failed applications.
