MS unveils Silverlight 3
Microsoft has officially unveiled Silverlight 3, its rich Internet application platform, largely viewed as the chief competitor to Adobe Flash, reports Betanews.
Microsoft says nearly one-third of all Internet-enabled devices have Silverlight 2 installed, and this release ushered in several new big-name customers.
NBC Sports, for example, which used Silverlight to stream the Beijing Summer Olympics, will not only use Silverlight for the 2010 Winter Olympics as was previously expected, but for all of its online video moving forward.
Yamaha revamps receiver
Yamaha has introduced its RX-V1065 7.2-channel AV receiver with better HD audio and video performance, according to Home theatre review.
Highlights of this receiver include a newly-developed, easy to use onscreen GUI, four HDMI inputs, 1080p video up-scaling and a full complement of HD audio codecs, as well as support for HD radio, XM and Sirius Satellite Radio, iPods and Bluetooth devices.
Yamaha's RX-V1065 receiver enables music and movie enthusiasts to more fully enjoy their HDTVs, Blu-ray players, broadcast HD services and gaming consoles.
Live 3D holographs a reality
AV Concepts, in partnership with Illusio Technologies, Masergy, Christie and Musion Systems, demonstrated a live and interactive hologram transmission between London and Orlando, Florida, according to Telepresence Options.
The demonstration saw speakers and performers in London appearing as life-sized images in London, with the speaker and the audience able to see each other, respond and interact in real-time.
AV Concepts, as the lead technical producer, utilised patented Musion foil provided by Illusio Technologies, called Eyeliner.
