MS updates Home Server
Windows Home Server will get the first upgrade since it was released this past November, in the form of Power Pack 1, which Microsoft showed at CES 2008, says PC Magazine.
Enhancements include support for PCs running 64-bit Windows Vista x64, a new backup option, and new remote access options. Power consumption will also be improved by Power Pack 1, and support for Japanese and Chinese languages will be added.
Microsoft developers are working on other minor enhancements, and the update will be available via Windows Update in the first half of 2008.
Parallels starts beta testing
Parallels has officially kicked off the first round of beta testing for its Parallels Server product, says InfoWorld.
Parallels has kicked off Beta 1 of its server virtualisation product to a small contingent of its most trusted, active beta testers - the so-called hard-core Parallels supporters.
Once these users provide Parallels with their feedback, the company will be ready to release Beta 2 to the general public.
Server creates licence issues
The Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) is advising Ohio residents of a national computer server issue that is preventing any driver licence or state ID card from being issued, says NewarkAdvocate.
Shortly after the open of business on Monday, the BMV began experiencing a system slowdown, at which time the agency notified the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) of the problem.
The server issue is affecting every state, and AAMVA is continuing to diagnose and repair the server issue.
