MS, VMware brawl over SUSE
VMware and Microsoft, two rival virtualisation technology providers, are now publicly feuding over what VMware's decision to offer an OEM version of Novell's SUSE Linux means, says ChannelWeb.
The latest spat between the two stems from an announcement on 9 June that VMware will distribute and support Novell's SUSE Linux Enterprise Server operating system with its vSphere technology, and will standardise its virtual appliance-based product offerings on that operating system, known also as SLES.
At the time, Tim Stephan, senior director of product marketing at VMware, said the agreement makes it cheap and easy for customers of VMware's vSphere Standard and vSphere Enterprise Plus virtualisation applications to acquire a Linux distribution.
HP releases virtualisation line-up
HP is hoping that a focus on reducing virtualisation costs will help it maintain its lead in the server market, states ITNews.
At its TechForum 2010 conference in Las Vegas, HP unveiled 10 new server and storage products across its blade, networking and enterprise storage lines.
"This is going to be our largest year for product launches ever," said Dave Donatelli, executive VP for HP's servers, storage and networking division.
Virtualisation market grows
The virtualisation security market has witnessed tremendous growth in the first quarter of 2010, reports Codestone.
New figures from Infonetics Research have shown the sector is up 119% year-over-year in the first three months of 2010.
Jeff Wilson, principal analyst at the organisation, says the virtual security appliance market is primed for a significant increase over the next five years.
