MTC Namibia SMS traffic exceeds 1 billion during 2007 festive season

Windhoek, Namibia, 11 Jan 2008

Comparisons of SMS traffic total figures for December 2006 to 2007 show a whopping 115% increase, in totals that would be 89 527 225 for December 2006, compared to 192 702 359 for December 2007.

The year-on-year (2006-2007) SMS traffic has also seen a significant increase of 105%, ie, total volumes of 714 503 333 messages handled for 2006 compared to 1 467 296 463 for 2007. These figures illustrate that the billion SMSes handled barrier was exceeded by far.

Miquel Geraldes, Managing Director of MTC Namibia, explains: "We have made significant investments in recent years to our network for applications like SMS delivery platforms, and that's why all SMSes were delivered successfully without any network congestion experienced.

"We, however, acknowledge that no network provider worldwide is spared the challenge of queues building up at peak periods, but we are performing very well against all key indicators of quality and service."

Geraldes further reassures customers that MTC remains committed to offering excellent value through products and services that enhance their lives, and 2008 promises to be even better.
