MTC renews sponsorship with Cricket Namibia

MTC demonstrates yet again its commitment to the development of Namibian sports by committing to a new three-year sponsorship agreement with Cricket Namibia.

Windhoek, 15 Sep 2009

Hot on the heels of a N$1.5 million a year sponsorship to the Namibia Professional Golfers Association (NPGA) last week, MTC has on Monday announced a three-year extension on its sponsorship agreement with Cricket Namibia.

In terms of the new agreement, the country's leading mobile operator will sponsor an amount of N$2.5 million to the cricket authority on an annual basis.

MTC's General Manager for Corporate Communication, Albertus Aochamub, expressed happiness with what cricket has achieved in the past six years. “It was an absolute joy to work with Cricket Namibia. It is one code that has not given us any problem over the years. We are certainly impressed by their hard work and the results that they have produced on the field,” said Aochamub.

Cricket Namibia's President, Francois Erasmus, acknowledged the role that MTC has played in the development of cricket in Namibia over the past six years. “Not only has this lifted the standard and profile of the game in Namibia through ever increasing number of players participating in cricket throughout the country. Club cricket has been a major benefactor and proof of this is that there will be four additional teams playing the national cricket leagues during 2009/2010,” said Erasmus.

The sponsorship covers the costs of the Namibia senior team participating in the Cricket South Africa amateur cricket tournament; development of grass roots cricket; infrastructure development; national first and premier cricket leagues; the national team coach; as well as the assisting with the payments of contract for the national players.

MTC is the leading benefactor of sports in Namibia. It spends 1% of its turnover on social investments every year.
