MTC to launch ConnectMEDIA package for scribes

Windhoek, 07 May 2009

Following the successful roll-out of the subsidised laptops and 3G broadband Internet to UNAM and Polytechnic students under the ConnectED package, MTC is extending a similar package to media practitioners in celebration of World Press Freedom Day.

Early this year, MTC introduced the ConnectED package for students of the Polytechnic and the University of Namibia. The student laptop initiative was part of MTC's ICT development plan for the education sector to equip every higher learning student with the means to improve ICT literacy and build a solid foundation for a knowledge-based society.

Hundreds of students at both institutions of higher learning signed up for the ConnectED opportunity, and MTC is happy that these students are able to do research and churn out project reports and assignments of high quality.

In addition to the subsidisation of laptops to tertiary students, MTC is also investing heavily in equipping each of the 1 000-plus primary schools around the country with laptops.

In celebration of World Press Freedom Day, MTC is extending a ConnectMEDIA package to media practitioners to acquire handsets and laptops with 3G broadband Internet at highly subsidised rates.

Representatives of media houses are therefore kindly invited to a media conference, where the details of the ConnectMEDIA package will be explained in greater detail.

The details of the media conference are:
Date: 07 May 2009
Time: 10h00
Venue: Executive Boardroom, 2nd Floor, MTC House, Olympia
