New international remittance agreements will enable the purchase of MTN airtime by anyone abroad for people back home, through ezetop and Sochitel outlets.

Ezetop provides top-up facilities through stores in 16 countries, as well as by mobile phone and through a Web site.

Sochitel has front-end distribution agreements in the UK, Ireland, Italy, Germany, North America, Africa and the Arabic Gulf, and delivers 95% of MTN Nigeria's revenue for overseas top-up.

MTN group executive of corporate affairs Nozipho January-Bardill says: “A significant section of the emerging markets population is in the diaspora for various reasons and in some cases they are providers for their families. Availability of MTN airtime overseas will enable them to send airtime home.”

The MTN Group has operations in 21 countries, with more than 134 million subscribers in Africa and the Middle East.
