MTN customers score the hottest tickets in town with new loyalty programme

Johannesburg, 25 Feb 2009

The 2010 FIFA World Cup starts now! This is the message carried in MTN South Africa's newly launched FIFA World Cup television commercial. The campaign launches fresh on the heels of the ticket registration process that has resulted in 133 countries registering online via www.FIFA.com for over 300 000 FIFA World Cup tickets in the first 48 hours of opening. This excludes any hard paper applications made by South African residents.

While MTN kicks off its 2010 FIFA World Cup campaign with the TV commercial, which shows South Africans of all walks of life sharing their excitement and anticipation of the football spectacular to be held for the first time on African soil, MTN customers are set to score as well, with the launch of the new MTN 1-4-1 loyalty programme.

MTN customers are among the select number of people who will have the opportunity to be part of this once in a lifetime event with MTN 1-4-1, which gives MTN customers the sought-after opportunity to win the much-coveted FIFA 2010 tickets. The MTN 1-4-1 programme also rewards MTN customers with airtime, sms bundles and data bundles. Registration is free and, upon registering for the MTN 1-4-1 loyalty programme, a customer receives one entry into the monthly draw for double 2010 FIFA World Cup tickets.

All monthly non-winning entries will be carried over each month until May 2010 when the last draw takes place. Customers will also have the opportunity to buy more entries into the monthly draw with points earned, and these will also be carried over until May 2010.

Says Pieter Verkade, Chief Marketing Officer of MTN South Africa: “MTN is proud to be part of the 2010 FIFA World Cup and the new MTN 1-4-1 loyalty programme allows us to share this with our customers. Lucky MTN customers who have registered on the programme will go into the draw for free tickets, which will take place once a month until May 2010.

“This will give them the chance of getting tickets to attend games and be part of this once in a lifetime event, taking place right here on the African continent.”

MTN customers can register for the MTN 1-4-1 loyalty programme by dialling *141*9# from their handsets or access it via the MTN WAP site www.mtn.co.za from their handsets. Earning points is simple: customers earn one point for every R1.00 spent on their MTN subscription - Pay As You Go, TopUp or contract. They also earn 1 point for every day they are active on the MTN network (up to 31 points a month). And, as a limited bonus offer applicable to registrations up to 31 August 2009, customers will get 60 days (2 months) of backdated usages and tenure upon registration.

The draw for 2010 FIFA World Cup tickets will take place once a month until May 2010.

The MTN 1-4-1 loyalty programme is available to all MTN customers as soon as they register, whether they are on MTN Pay As You Go, TopUp or contract. Points earned by customers can also be redeemed for virtual MTN products such as airtime and sms bundles as well as data bundles.
