The mobile price war continues, with late entrant MTN starting to get more involved.
The operator - SA's second largest - today introduced Anytime contract packages, which MTN says gives contract customers more talk time, text and Web browsing time.
"[Anytime contracts] offer more talk time through a combination of more anytime value and free MTN-to-MTN minutes, more text time through increased SMS bundles and more Web browsing time with bigger Internet bundles."
MTN says the new contract packages form part of the mobile brand's move to provide more value and offer convenience in the form of a more all-inclusive deal.
The contracts work in the following way: for R350 per month customers get R350 airtime, a 350MB Internet bundle, 350 SMSes and 60 minutes free MTN-to-MTN calls, over a 24-month contract period. The R750 package offers R750 airtime, a 750MB Internet bundle, 750 SMSes and 180 minutes free for on-net calls. Contracts must be taken over a 24-month period.
Serame Taukobong, MTN's chief marketing officer, says the new contract portfolio was prompted by what the operator perceives as customers' need to have voice, data and SMS in one package.
"The new contract packages are open to both new and existing MTN customers who are eligible for an upgrade. Existing MTN contract customers can migrate to any of the new Anytime packages from their current package without extending the length of their contract or having to take a new contract to get the benefits of the new Anytime contract packages."
The new packages are currently available in-store.
