Africa's largest cellular operator, MTN, has reorganised its operating structure so that its international units have a more direct link with head office.

The company says Ahmad Farroukh will join it as group chief operating executive from April.

Farroukh is currently MTN VP for the West and Central Africa region and director of MTN Nigeria. He joined MTN in 2006 as part of the Investcom acquisition and later became CEO of MTN Nigeria.

Farroukh will have seven operations CEOs reporting to him: MTN Irancell, Ghana, Cote d`Ivoire, Afghanistan, Syria, Cameroon and Uganda.

MTN has also created the new position of operations executive, who will be responsible for the rest of the operations such as MTN Cyprus, Guinea-Conakry, Guinea-Bissau, Botswana, Rwanda, Benin, Congo-Brazzaville, Liberia, Sudan, Swaziland, Yemen and Zambia.

The operations executive, who has yet to be appointed, will report to Farroukh.

The CEOs of South Africa and Nigeria will report directly to group CEO and president Sifiso Dabengwa.
