SA's second biggest cellphone operator has reviewed its business structure as it steers its business operations towards ICT convergence.
In line with this, MTN CFO Zunaid Bulbulia has taken on a dual role as he heads up the company's new enterprise business unit.
MTN says the move comes as the company works to sustain its momentum in an “increasingly competitive” environment. “[The company] has reviewed its operating structures with a view to improving organisational effectiveness.”
Appointed as acting chief enterprise business officer yesterday, Bulbulia has held the position of CFO at MTN since 2005. “Zunaid will continue to manage our company finances and, effectively, will have a dual role,” says MTN.
MD departure
At the same time, says MTN, MD of MTN Business - Angela Gahagan-Thompson - is leaving the company after a two-year tenure.
“[Gahagan-Thompson] will be pursuing business interests outside of the company. [She] joined MTN SA in 2010 as executive MTN Business, where she was responsible for pursuing strategic business development opportunities.”
The operator says Gahagan-Thompson brought “outstanding leadership and management credentials” to MTN. “[This] will put her in good stead to work across different organisations. As a member of MTN's executive committee, Angela made a sterling contribution to the development of the MTN Business. MTN wishes her well in her business pursuits.”
