MTN, Africa's largest mobile operator, has made what it calls "key" appointments at its two biggest operations.
In a statement, the listed group says Mazen Mroue, CEO of MTN Uganda, has been appointed as the new COO of MTN Irancell, MTN's second-largest unit, with more than 40 million subscribers.
Mroue will be succeeded in Uganda by Brian Gouldie, the outgoing chief marketing officer of MTN SA. Gouldie's departure was announced earlier this month, although the company did not disclose which country operation he would be heading up. Gouldie will be replaced by Larry Annetts.
According to MTN, in the 10 months since his appointment, Gouldie has been responsible for redefining the competitive position of MTN SA. He has launched prepaid and postpaid converged products, with the most recent being the 79c voice and data offerings.
"These have been instrumental in reaffirming customer affinity in the South African market. Furthermore, he spearheaded the delivery of the financial services portfolio, MTN Mobile Money, and launched the industry's first Internet service bundles and radio streaming proposition."
Ferdi Moolman, currently COO at MTN Irancell, has been appointed to the position of CFO MTN Nigeria, MTN's largest operation with more than 57 million customers.
President and CEO Sifiso Dabengwa says the group is "delighted that we are able to fill these executive management positions from within our leadership ranks, in line with our leadership development strategy".
MTN has 210.1 million subscribers across its operations in Afghanistan, Benin, Botswana, Cameroon, Cote d'Ivoire, Cyprus, Ghana, Guinea Bissau, Guinea Republic, Iran, Liberia, Nigeria, Republic of Congo (Congo-Brazzaville), Rwanda, South Africa, Sudan, South Sudan, Swaziland, Syria, Uganda, Yemen and Zambia.
