Multenet, an established global supplier of serial to Ethernet connectivity products, recently announced the release of the PocketPAD Multi-Drop. The company, a leading innovator in networking technology, has announced the availability of a low cost serial device server that supports a daisy chain network topology.
Phil Blain, sales and marketing director, says the PocketPAD Multi-Drop is currently available at the company`s distribution centres.
Based on the entry-level PocketPAD 1 design, the PocketPAD Multi-Drop has one RS232 serial interface and two 10/100 Ethernet interfaces. The embedded Ethernet switch allows one to daisy-chain the Ethernet cabling directly from one device to another.
The unit provides a Web-based user interface, designed to easily configure Ethernet and serial parameters. This product is ideal for use when connecting an array of serial devices that are at varying distances from the nearest switch, saving unnecessary cabling, and the installation of extra switches. A good example of this is the multi-lane environment found in the retail industry where point of sale terminals are connected to the store network.
