Multenet takes UPS by the horns

Multenet Technologies (Pty) Ltd, trading as SAN People announces the launch of the Multenet Power Agent; a UPS Manager with Data Logging and SNMP capabilities.
Johannesburg, 14 Feb 2004

Multenet has released a UPS Manager, which is specifically designed to add Data Logging capabilities and SNMP management to a standard UPS system. The UPS Manager, called the Multenet Power Agent, will connect to the serial RS232 port of the UPS, and will provide 10/100 BaseT Ethernet connectivity to the UPS.

The Power Agent, once connected, will be able to log UPS data like its temperature, Voltage Input, Output and Frequency, so that in the event of any abnormal circumstances, the cause of the problem can be identified immediately.

The Power Agent will have an embedded SNMP Agent so that it and the UPS can be managed using a standard SNMP manager utilizing the UPS Standard MIB (RFC 1628). The system will also provide the ability to view all the UPS data over a network with a standard web browser, enabling the user to diagnose any UPS problems from a central remote location. The data logging functionality furthermore lists a history of occurrences on the on the system, improving diagnostics capability. These features were included specifically to appeal to UPS manufacturers and distributors who can now monitor, maintain and support their UPS systems over the network, eliminating expensive and laborious on-site visits. This state-of-the-art platform also supports shutdown software for a range of operating systems including Microsoft Windows, Linux, SUN Solaris and Novell Netware. Furthermore, the Power Agent will be able to broadcast customized alarms via emails, SMS and message pop-ups.

The Power Agent is also being widely supported by Multenet`s team of qualified technical engineers.

The product facilitates individual manufacturer`s and distributor`s branding.
