Multenet Technologies (Pty) Ltd is pleased to announce the start of a new product development project called MultiDrop Ethernet. The project output will be a set of three products which will greatly enhance the range of innovative Serial device servers and Ethernet network products presently available to Multenet customers.
This project will be partly funded by the Support Programme for Industrial Innovation under the matching scheme fund.
The set of three products is made up of firstly of a wireless platform which will feature wireless data transfer via the cellular network using GPRS/EDGE technology. On the Ethernet network side, wireless networking will be provided for with WiFi.
The second product will be known as Powered Multidrop Ethernet. This features the unique MultiDrop functionality (patent pending), as is already available on the existing PocketPAD MultiDrop product, in addition to providing power via the Ethernet Cat5 cable compliant with the IEEE802.3af Power-over-Ethernet standard. The third product to be developed is a Powered Ethernet switch. This 4-port managed switch will inject power into the Cat5 cable, as required by the Powered MultiDrop product and other Power-over-Ethernet compliant devices.
The new products will not only extend the current range of network solutions available, but in combination with each other, will offer unequalled savings in power infrastructure and Ethernet network deployment costs.
The project duration will be one year and the first products to market will become available within six months.
The Support Programme for Industrial Innovation is a programme run under the auspices of the Department of Trade and Industry and is administered by The Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa Limited.
