Mustek, manufacturer and distributor of Mecer PCs, has been awarded distribution rights for MINOLTA-QMS laser printers, consumables and peripherals with effect from 1 November 2001.
MINOLTA-QMS marketing manager, Marc Pillay, says research indicates that as much as 90% of printer sales locally are concluded by computer resellers, PC stores, retail outlets and systems integrators.
"The deal with Mecer aims to capitalise on the high percentage of printers sold to the South African market through Mustek`s dealer channel, and gives MINOLTA-QMS a wider distribution network which should boost market share," he says.
MINOLTA-QMS products will be supported by the existing Minolta infrastructure of 12 branches and 42 dealers countrywide. These authorised service providers (ASPs) have signed service agreements with MINOLTA-QMS and will hold MINOLTA-QMS products, consumables and parts for warranty and service provision in the regions.
Mecer`s strategic planning manager, Allan Rosslee, says they choose their partners carefully to maintain the integrity and quality of the Mecer brand. "The MINOLTA-QMS products fit the bill as they have a proven reliability record, are very competitively priced and are well supported in SA. This will add value to our existing Mecer PC offering," he says.
Rosslee adds that Mustek will initially distribute the MINOLTA-QMS range from its Johannesburg office and use the Minolta ASPs for nation-wide installation, support and service when required by its resellers. "As we grow the product, we will also expand the product to our branches in Cape Town, Durban and Port Elizabeth," he says.
