Multimedia Warehouse (MMW) a division of Siltek Distribution Dynamics (SDD), local distributor of Mylex RAID products, has released the AcceleRAID 150, a low-cost, single-channel LVD SCSI RAID adapter from Mylex aimed at the high-end workstation and workgroup server markets.
Mogammad Peters, SCSI Technology product manager at MMW, says the RAID adapter has all the functions, features and performance characteristics of standard Mylex controllers.
"The adapter is hardware optimised to be a single channel RAID controller with Ultra2 SCSI support," he says. "Alternatively, it can use the SCSI channels on the motherboard for a multiple channel solution, which means the controller has a lower component count and lower cost."
The Mylex adapter is compatible with Windows NT, NetWare, SCO UNIX as well as PCI-based motherboards with embedded SCSI chips and systems that have a PCI expansion slot designated for add-in RAID controllers.
AcceleRAID 150 provides full RAID 0, 1, 0+1, 3, 5, 10, 30, 50 and JBOD (Just a Bunch Of Disks) level configuration capabilities. User-friendly RAID management utilities make the adapter suitable for even for the smallest workgroups.
The card uses an Intel i960RP 33MHz processor and 4MB cache memory for increased performance as well as a monolithic NT driver that improves overall system throughput.
The adapter has a multitude of fault detection and fault tolerance features as well as new functions to ease set-up and management. The new Immediate RAID Availability (background initialisation) feature enables other set-up tasks to be performed while the rest of the system is being configured. RAID expansion allows users to add drives to existing arrays and re-stripe data across all the drives. The additional storage space created by the new drive expands the capacity of the existing logical drive or creates an additional logical drive.
"AcceleRAID 150 adapters bring the performance and fault tolerance of RAID to performance desktops, workstation desktop applications and entry level servers at the lowest cost possible," concludes Peters.
