myWasp, Trend Micro collaborate to provide safer wireless applications to mobile business users

SecureData, an ERP.com company and the exclusive sub-Saharan distributors of Trend Micro (Nasdaq: TMICD, TSE: 4704), a global leader in network anti-virus and Internet content security solutions, is pleased to announce that Trend Micro has entered into an agreement with myWasp, the UK's primary WASP to provide content security for myWasp's Roaming wireless application service.

Roaming allows businesses to develop and deploy wireless mobile applications quickly and easily so that their mobile workforce can fully exploit the capabilities of portable mobile devices. This alliance will enable myWasp to utilise Trend Micro's award-winning InterScan VirusWall technology in its cutting-edge wireless applications solutions and will allow the company to provide virus and malicious code protection to mobile business professionals throughout the UK and the Republic of Ireland.

The number of wireless and handheld device users is rapidly increasing. According to Gartner Dataquest, nearly 10 million PDAs were sold worldwide last year, close to double the number sold in 1999. Analysts predict that 33 million PDAs will be sold in the year 2004, underlining the requirement for wireless application technology that can offer not only the full spectrum of portable communications, but also the peace of mind of proven virus and malicious code protection.

Ian Muller, a director at myWasp, said they are very pleased to be working with Trend Micro to provide their customers with best-of-breed anti-virus technology as part of their roaming wireless application service. myWasp is offering a first-class service to a new generation of wireless users who will benefit from the latest security technology at affordable prices.

"This agreement is very exciting for Trend Micro," says Wayne Biehn, SecureData Sales Director. "myWasp is at the cutting-edge of communications devices and Trend Micro believe they are the first anti-virus vendor in the UK to be working with a WASP to provide malicious code protection services. With the growth in mobile applications accelerating rapidly and the likelihood of content threats being launched on wireless devices increasing, we anticipate a long and productive alliance between our two organisations that will truly benefit wireless device users."

myWasp joins a host of other service providers around the world that have selected Trend Micro technology to offer their business and consumer customers virus protection as a value-added service.
