NamITech`s telecommunications division has won a contract to supply Econet Ezi-Cel, Lesotho`s second licensed cellular network provider, with 100 000 prepaid vouchers and 10 000 starter packs with SIM cards. The contract is worth an estimated R5 million.
Nikki Kettles, managing director of NamITech`s telecommunications division, said the contract will see NamITech and sister company, Integrated Card Technologies (ICT), SA`s largest smart card manufacturer, collaborating to fulfil the order. "We work jointly on a number of GSM-based contracts in Africa," she said.
NamITech is the IT arm of the SA Securities Exchange-listed Nampak group.
The company also recently won a R20 million contract with Vodacom in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
NamITech is to supply Vodacom DRC - which is due to open its network in May - with an initial order of 155 000 SIM packs, 1 million prepaid vouchers, fulfilment packs and electronic re-loads off terminals.
