With Vodacom opening its cellular phone network in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) early in May, it has been announced that NamITech Telecommunications is to supply it with an initial order of 155 000 SIM packs, 1 million prepaid vouchers, fulfilment packs and electronic re-loads off terminals in an initial contract worth an estimated R20 million.
This was confirmed by Nikki Kettles, managing director of NamITech`s telecommunications division, who said Vodacom has opened up a network in the DRC following its recent joint venture formation with Congolese Wireless Network (CWN), one of that country`s cellular network operators.
"We have signed an initial one-year contract with Vodacom Congo, but we believe this business relationship, like it is in SA, will be ongoing."
Kettles said Vodacom has already predicted that business stemming from Africa within the next two years will form a major part its total group revenue stream.
"Africa is a large emerging market and we will be partnering with Vodacom as they extend their presence on the continent in the wireless business sector."
