Nanoradio converges solution
Nanoradio's Always On WiFi solution has been presented inside the first Third Generation Unlicensed Mobile Access (3G UMA) phone, says TMCnet.
UMA is a telecommunication system which extends mobile services voice, data and IP multimedia subsystem/session initiation protocol applications over IP access networks.
According to Nanoradio, fixed-mobile convergence using dual mode cellular WiFi handsets is a rapidly developing market and requires the WiFi to be active at all times in order for the user to receive an incoming or make an outgoing UMA call.
GPS and Bluetooth merge
Sirf Technology Holdings, a provider of GPS-powered location platforms, has unveiled the SiRFlinkIII combination radio, says Directions Magazine.
The SiRFlinkIII solution is designed to drive its on-chip Bluetooth radio at 2.0 power while providing high GPS sensitivity, and offers low-cost, fast-time-to-market Bluetooth functionality to next-generation mobile convergence devices.
“The SiRFlinkIII solution makes it possible for us to add Bluetooth functionality into our current PND products with acceptable cost and within space constraints,” says Larry Yu, CEO of Yuanfeng Electronics.
Verizon demonstrates 100G network
Verizon's latest trial of 100G optical transmission technology performed with better tolerance for signal distortion than typically found in today's standard wavelength of 10G, reports JDJ International.
The Nortel Optical Multiservice Edge 6500 convergence platform equipped with 40G/100G Adaptive Optical Engine technology integrates advanced signal-processing techniques that maintain sustained signal integrity despite significant polarisation mode dispersion.
Mark Wegleitner, Verizon's senior vice-president of technology, says: "Each advance we make moves the Verizon network closer to commercial deployment of reliable higher-bandwidth speeds on the backbone to serve our customers' needs - whether it's voice, video or data."
