National Systems (NDS), a member of the JSE-listed Fintech group of companies, has been awarded a multi-million Rand contract to install and maintain a new range of network equipment on behalf of the world`s leading software manufacturer, Microsoft. The three-year contract awarded by Microsoft is part of a global agreement with NCR and covers more than 60 countries. NDS is NCR`s sole distributor for the South African region.

The range of equipment, installed in the Johannesburg and Cape Town offices of Microsoft SA, represents leading brands including Cisco, 3Com and Fore Systems. In addition to the provision of support services, NDS will also supply selected items of equipment in association with 3Com.

The Johannesburg site will act as the regional data centre for South Africa as well as other African countries and will include support for Kenya, Mauritius, and Zimbabwe. Other African countries are also earmarked for inclusion in the program.

Microsoft`s data centre will function as the central repository for product and support information. Expected benefits from the implementation will include improved information management, ease of access to the data and the ability to centralise control.

Deon Hultzer, Microsoft`s African Data Centre Manager said. "The support project is working extremely well, and the decision to with NDS was due to their proven track record coupled to their close association with NCR which was key to selecting them as our preferred supplier,"

Said Peter Sullivan, Manager, Multivendor Services at NDS "Having been a support partner to Microsoft for the past year now, we are especially delighted with their decision to develop the existing relationship."

NDS considers itself to be an integral part of NCR`s global service programme for Cisco products and provides support for over 60 Cisco installed sites throughout South Africa.

NDS is committed to deepening its involvement in the network support arena and is currently embarked upon a program of further expanding its skills base and support infrastructure in this area.
