Navision Software announces Navision Web Shop and Navision Financials 2.5 featuring the Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 option

Johannesburg, 27 Oct 1999

Navision today announces the immediate general availability of the worldwide versions of Navision Web Shop, the company`s newest commerce tool, and the general availability on November 22, 1999 of Navision Financials 2.5 featuring the MicrosoftSQL Server 7.0 Option, an advanced platform enabling mid-sized businesses unprecedented functionality.

Navision Financials 2.5 Featuring the Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 Option

Navision Financials 2.5 used with Microsoft SQL Server provides mid-size companies with a leading technology that offers extensive connectivity to a wide range of third-party decision support tools. Also, the Microsoft SQL Server Option provides smooth integration with other office systems as well as built-in warehousing and OLAP functionality that enables your organization to leverage its knowledge and information. Navision Software is offering Microsoft SQL Server as an option, giving customers a choice between Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 and Navision Software`s renowned database used today by its more than 34,000 customers around the world.

Customers need only upgrade their application to Navision Financials 2.5 or a later version, to be able to migrate to the Microsoft SQL Server with no more than an ordinary backup/restore procedure. Any and all company-specific customizations will automatically be included. The Navision Financials solution will have the same look and feel, the same comfortable customization possibilities and the same easy access to information.

With the addition of the Microsoft SQL Server Option, Navision Financials will take advantage of many of Microsoft SQL Server 7.0`s features, such as the backup/restore capabilities, the dynamic locking scheme and the administration and management features.

"Our mid-size customers worldwide have enabled us to stay focused on meeting the needs of companies in this market," said Ren'e Stockner, VP, Sales & Marketing for Navision Software a/s. "We`ve combined our proven mid-market offering and our unique SIFT (Sum Index Flow Technology) with the Microsoft SQL Server to give customers the one and the same solution across all the platforms we offer. Unlike our competitors, we support Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 without the dramatic overhead of introducing a completely new product line. Ultimately that`s to the benefit of our customers," adds Stockner.

Effective immediately, Navision Software also announces a uniform pricing model for its Navision Financials solutions across all platforms and database servers. This new and simpler pricing model is based on functionality and number of users. Prices will be the same for both the Navision Server and Microsoft SQL Server 7.0. This pricing strategy further demonstrates Navision Software`s continued focus on offering competitive solutions for mid-market businesses.

Navision Web Shop

Navision Web Shop allows mid-size businesses to set up and maintain an online storefront as well as automatically synchronize data with Navision Financials. This Internet commerce tool will provide Navision Software with its first major foray into the e-commerce marketplace, an industry which, according to Forrester Research, will generate more than 327 billion dollars in sales by the year 2002.

With Navision Web Shop, mid-size companies around the world now have the power to dynamically control, change and update their Web site for Internet commerce using the Microsoft "look and feel" found in Navision Financials. Navision Web Shop instantly updates a company`s Web storefront to reflect any changes made in Navision Financials, such as item prices, item descriptions, special sales offers and associated images.

"Web Shop is designed to completely integrate with Navision Financials and provide a seamless flow of transaction data between the two interfaces," says Stockner. "The real beauty of Web Shop is the fact that it allows businesses to drive their Web sites based on the Navision Financials database that powers the company`s financial applications. Plus, it`s big enough and agile enough to handle the ever-increasing amount of digital traffic from consumers and businesses alike."

Navision Web Shop also interfaces with Microsoft standards that are upward compatible, scalable and require no additional programming training. The Microsoft SQL Server and Site Server 3, Commerce Edition make it easy to provide businesses with near-zero maintenance of their Web sites through Navision Web Shop`s seamless integration. Other Microsoft components include Microsoft Transaction Server and Microsoft Message Queue Server.

Both Navision Web Shop and Navision Financials 2.5 featuring the Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 Option have undergone extensive global beta testing and have received acclaim from all audiences. In fact, in June 1999 at the Munich Softworld tradeshow, Microsoft awarded Navision Web Shop with the first place "Best Solution Award" for the product`s functionality and flexibility.

"These offerings demonstrate Navision Software`s focus on using the Web as an Internet-commerce tool and our commitment to our Microsoft BackOffice strategy," concludes Stockner. "Navision Web Shop is an efficient way to bring your business to the Internet because any additions, changes or modifications made in Navision Financials are immediately reflected at your e-commerce Web site. Equally innovative, the Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 Option for Navision Financials combines extended scalability and administrative capabilities with an affordable price tag. Both products will enable our channel to flourish and ultimately to continue expanding the worldwide customer base."
