NEC signs submarine cable deal

NEC has signed a multimillion-dollar contract with PT Fangbian Iskan Corporindo and Telemedia Pacific to supply the new intra-Asian Submarine Cable Asia (Scan) system, states FoxBusiness.

The cable system will provide the first direct cable link that connects the Indonesian capital of Jakarta and the second largest city of Surabaya to Hong Kong, where it will be further connected to other cable systems reaching around the globe.

The Scan system will span 4 300 km, with three branching units to support potential future expansion to key ASEAN countries such as Singapore, Vietnam and the Philippines. This cable will utilise advanced Dense WDM systems, with an initial capacity of 40Gb/s transmission speed, upgradable to 1.92Tb/s.

Verizon wins government contract

Verizon Business will provide IT solutions and professional services to federal agencies under a 10-year contract that has been awarded by the US General Services Administration, reports FoxBusiness.

Verizon Business, through its federal network systems arm, was among multiple awardees selected by the GSA to provide services under the contract, which has a total value of as much as $50 billion.

The contract, for a programme known as Alliant, authorises Verizon Business to negotiate with government agencies to serve as a services and solutions integrator and provide a variety of services.

Alcatel expands network IP transformation

Alcatel-Lucent has been awarded an extension contract by Delta Telecom, a , voice and backbone service provider in the Caucasus region, to extend its IP multi-protocol label switching (IP/MPLS) backbone network, says Newsdesk.

The scope of the contract includes design, deployment and maintenance of the network.

Alcatel-Lucent's carrier Ethernet and IP/MPLS solutions enable Delta Telecom LLC to offer reliable communication services to its business customers. The newly upgraded IP/MPLS network will form the platform for future services, which will enable the next wave of advanced services with minimal further investment.
