Telecommunications carrier, BitCo has completed a point of presence in Nelspruit, bringing high-speed wireless connectivity to Mpumalanga's business and administrative capital. The point of presence went live on 23 July 2012, and the first clients have already signed up.
BitCo's point of presence is connected to its national network via fibre. Other points of presence are located in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban and Cape Town. From the point of presence, wireless connectivity is provided to clients from high points around the city, thus creating a high-speed Metro Ethernet network. Services offered include a range of voice telephony options as well as Internet access. Telephony packages range from two analogue lines to four Primary Rate Interface lines (E1) as well as SIP for newer IP phones and PABX systems.
"Nelspruit is one of the country's fastest-growing business centres, but until now, it has lacked access to high-speed, carrier-grade wireless connectivity," says Scott Mobey, Infrastructure Director at BitCo. "We are offering Nelspruit clients connectivity options from basic 256kbps to 20Mbps."
BitCo's new service covers the greater Nelspruit metropolitan area, stretching as far as Kaapsehoop to the south-west. Because the service relies on minimal physical infrastructure, it is quick to extend coverage as demand dictates.
Mobey says the new service has been well received by local business. He notes that fixed-line connectivity in the area, besides being slow, is plagued by copper theft. BitCo's "invisible lines" offer clients a way to avoid the business interruption and lost revenues occasioned by extended connectivity blackouts.
"These days, there is a direct correlation between bottom-line profitability and the quality of your connectivity - it's as simple as that," Mobey explains.
"A solution that is high speed, affordable and, above all, reliable is something that Nelspruit's business community has lacked until now."
BitCo uses channel partners to go to market, and is currently expanding its base of local channel partners.
