Neotel has appointed Albie Modise as its new media relations specialist in the national telecommunications network provider's corporate communication division.
Modise has more than 10 years' experience working in the ICT public sector.
Prior to joining Neotel's ranks, on 5 January, Modise worked for the Department of Communications, the State IT Agency, Cyberia ICT Consulting, and Government Communications and Information System.
Modise says 2009 will be an exciting year in the telecommunications space as competition is expected to drive down costs.
“The opportunities provided in the ICT environment have re-defined how technology will be integrated from this year on. Neotel is a newcomer to the telecommunications industry and will add new levels of energy and excitement.”
Modise adds: “I was present at the Presidential International Advisory Council and some of the issues discussed were bridging the national divide and providing wide access to affordable and reliable telecommunications. ICT is important for developing the economy and providing more opportunities for the public. More competition will lower the costs in connectivity and is critical to ensure better customer service.”
Modise says the future of Neotel for 2009 looks bright. “Uppermost in our plan is to extend access to affordable and robust telecommunications services to South Africans. In addition, Neotel aims to continually improve on its product offering while also improving customer service.
“South African consumers have been waiting for our arrival and we aim to live up to their expectations. Neotel is aggressively rolling-out telecommunications infrastructure to South Africans, thereby extending access to telecommunications services to South Africans. Our long-term plan is to extend services to other areas of the country, significantly improving and extending our network coverage.”
Modise says as Neotel expands its coverage, it is looking to partner with some of the industry players that share the same vision. “Partnerships of this nature will stand us in good stead as we expedite our roll-out plan.”
Modise majored in journalism and media studies at Rhodes University. He has a certificate in telecommunications policy regulation and management as well as project management.
