Converged communications operator Neotel, in conjunction with the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC), has opened SA's second public telepresence room.

Telepresence is a high-definition, real-time video conferencing experience, with life-size participants, and sounds, gestures and facial expressions that support natural communication, says Neotel.

The company notes that joining multiple telepresence calls creates a single, exclusive meeting space. "This provides innovative and effective business collaboration and contributes towards faster decision-making, thus increasing productivity.

"Businesses in Cape Town and Johannesburg are now able to hold face-to-face meetings without leaving their respective cities and are also able to connect to 43 other global telepresence rooms through Tata Communications' expansive network that extends across five continents."

Neotel MD and CEO Sunil Joshi says: "The opening of Neotel's second public telepresence room in SA further emphasises our commitment to innovatively connect SA to the world. Video communication is increasingly playing a role in facilitating intra-company, as well as business-to-business collaboration."

CTICC CEO Rashid Toefy says the addition of the telepresence room is a huge value-add to delegates at the convention centre, and will enhance the meetings and events experience, when attending an event at the CTICC.

"As a leader in global best practice, especially in terms of the adoption of new technology, we aim to transform the meetings and events industry, and we believe the new offering will raise the bar for all local players.

"By collaborating with the private sector through partnerships, such as this one with Neotel, we will enhance our positioning as a leading global meetings and events venue, and move one step closer to achieving our vision of being the best long-haul international convention centre by 2020," adds Toefy.

Joshi notes that the video solution is underpinned by Neotel's network. "We continue to deploy a next-generation network, which allows for the combination of high-quality audio and video, simple intuitive technology, high reliability, and environmental sustainability, which creates a seamless meeting experience."
